Pediatric Pelvic Floor Therapy

Pediatric pelvic floor therapy focuses on pelvic conditions and symptoms in children. Pediatric pelvic physical therapists retrain the pelvic systems and muscles so they work properly.

Common conditions we treat

  • Enuresis (bed-wetting)
  • Constipation
  • Daytime urinary incontinence
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Urinary frequency and urgency
  • Vesicoureteral reflux
  • Voiding dysfunction
  • Weak core muscles
  • Encopresis (bowel incontinence or leaking) and/or inability to empty the bowel

What to expect

  • A parent or caregiver must be present during assessment and treatment.
  • Pelvic floor muscles are assessed with a non-invasive exam: visual exam or biofeedback.
  • Your child’s overall core strength, diet, and family dynamic are considered.
  • Caregiver education covers anatomy and function of bladder and bowel, fiber and fluid intake, and toileting postures.
  • Caregivers are asked to keep a bladder and bowel diary.
